Sharing the fence

23577013_MThe relationship between neighbors can be tricky. When you live next to someone, you also live with their habits to a certain extent. Some neighbors can be great while others can be more difficult. Some may cut their grass on a regular schedule and even go so far as to create a design. Others may only cut their grass once or twice a summer – or whenever the HOA steps in. Some may just want to visit across the fence while others may spend their time complaining about that fence. But until they move, you can’t change who your neighbors are.

One area that can be complicated is property disputes. Issues over lot size, ownership, or even where the fence is can cause problems. Fostering good relationships with your neighbors is key to dealing with these issues. But we also recommend understanding your property.

Your property title, description, and survey are some of the most important things you have as a homeowner. When issues arise with your neighbors, these documents can help you understand the whole situation and who owns what and where. We can help you with any research you may need regarding your property and any changes or issues that may have come up over the years.

Remember you’ll always share the fence in question with your neighbor, so it’s best to be cordial – and to understand your property!
